For Foodies

The Art of Dining

Suggested Itinerary:

Breakfast:

Start the day with a great homemade breakfast at Downies Cafe in Bay City. This traditional, second generation, breakfast diner has been pleasing the local community since 1985. We highly recommend the Cinnamon French Toast and omelets.  FYI – For those in need they do a great hang town fry. Allow 75 minutes.

And… we’re walking:

Walk off breakfast and make room for the next course with a visit to Kilchis Point Reserve.  A beautiful, protected area and neighbor to Sheltered Nook. It's an easy walking flat trail with benches and restored native forest with interpretive signage. Enjoy the flora and fauna as you follow the trail to where you’re treated to an expansive bay view featuring Egrets and Great Blue Herons wading in the water.  Allow 60 minutes.

Coffee Break:

Drop by Five Rivers Cafe, directly opposite the Tillamook Creamery, for an espresso and pick up some of their house roasted beans. They source the best coffee beans from around the world and hand roast them with care to provide perfection in every cup. Check out the award-winning Fogcutter coffee. Allow 30 minutes with drive.

Say Cheese:

Heading south on Hwy 101 toward Tillamook, stop into the Blue Heron French Cheese Company for a tasteful experience. Enjoy sipping local wines at the tasting bar, free samples of local cheeses, a homestyle deli, and a gift shop with plenty of unique local food ideas. Don't forget to visit the friendly petting zoo. Allow 60 minutes.

Lunch:

Grab a light lunch at one of the many great local food trucks. One of our favorites is Recess. They're known for their flame grilled burgers & chicken with fresh local ingredients. We love their Mac & Cheese and all their delicious sweets. Allow 90 minutes.

Lunch – Take Two:

Feeling sea-foodie? – Check out J Andy Oyster,  a local family operation that’s all about the fish.  Fresh, Tumbled Pacific Oysters harvested straight from the top water of Netarts Bay. Served on a bed of ice with slices of lime-Chipotle and Cayenne hot sauces.  Enjoy the full menu, including Oyster Po Boy, Fried Oysters, Baja Shrimp Cocktail, Fish Tacos & Steamer Clams.  Plus Daily Specials. Allow 90 minutes.

A Salty Experience:

Drive south through Tillamook and follow the Oceanside exit and head to Jacobsen Salt Works & Gift Shop where you can sample some world-class salt, including interesting special flavors.  Jacobson has been acknowledged by chefs around the globe.  Harvested from Netarts Bay. Local favorite. Outstanding scenery. Allow 3 hours with drive and stop times.

Dinner:

For a change of scenery, enjoy a scenic and lovely 30 minute drive to Meridian Restaurant within the Headlands Lodge in Pacific City. Considered one of the Oregon Coast's finest restaurants, The Meridian combines offerings from the sea as well as local farms and providers. A spectacular dining space, world-class service, with stunning views of Haystack Rock and the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Allow 3 hours including drive time.
